Another personal journal. Here we are floating, well, flying at inconceivable speed, through space, and I have to tell you, I have never been happier.

This is the best crew I have ever flown with. The nerves seem to be settled, and everything is on track for success. We will be in standard orbit of the planet tomorrow morning. We have to find a line high enough out of range for our stealth capabilities to work. There will be a lot of interference from the local satellites, and their space station, but we are sure to find a spot.

I gave another speech to the crew this evening. I told them personally of my experience, and how it affected me. Everyone on this mission wants to be here. We recruited from a volunteer pool. This is the chance of a lifetime for some of these rookies, and I am going to make it easy for them. There are lax rules aboard ship, meaning, there is no formality between members of this team. we are all on a first name basis, and we are all friends. One of the requirements of the crew was that egos were not to be tolerated on this mission.

I am excited to be back here. I told the crew about my first trip, and I told them how it changed my life. We (as a planet) go through such rigorous scientific study of other species, and we never truly put a personal stamp on our findings. Everything is always so sterile. This mission is changing that; by my intervention, and by the people of our planet. We are bored with the way things have been going. We are ready to make a positive effort at changing the way we go about research missions, and we are the test crew. We may run into some troubles, but we are a smart, and adaptable crew ready for all challenges.

Starting tomorrow we will be running on earth time. They use a 24 hour system, and a seven day week. It will take some getting used to, but it is nothing that will throw us off completely. Time to get some rest before tomorrow, and the real start of our mission proceedings.

A rant on permanence, or “hanging on to change”

Just so you know, my opinions, and joys change very constantly. I think it is this way for most, but some fail to realize this most basic truth.

Why do we feel that we have to say we love something, and then it is locked in for life. Tastes change, and so does everything else. Why do we try to stay the same? Change is always around us…..no strike that, We are change. If it is possible that humans in general are something it is just that….Change.

So, why do we hold on? or really at best…Why do we try to hold on? It seems that this is a flaw in our make-up. The brain is a moving entity, and it is always bouncing from one thing to another. Why do we try to hold on to things? We know that they are just going to change, so why try to grasp them, and put them in some little alcove of permanence?

It’s funny that people hold on to things really. It is a flaw that we were not born with you know. A babies attention span is nil. it is always moving on to the next thing. So where do we pick this up? Where do we pick up this habit of grasping. Somewhere in  the toddler phase I think. Maybe the first time we have a real concept of ourselves as an independent and autonomous entity. (which is also false)

So where does this come from? is it natural? I cant imagine that it is. Why would it be? If it goes against everything nature is, then how could it be natural? Can nature negate negating itself? The double negative does not always end up in a positive you know…

So, this is a jumble. These are going to be my rants. this is a rant on permanence. feel free to comment.

SEELAK DATA JOURNAL 3

Day three of our one week trip. I am rather pleased with the crew of this ship. Everything is precise, and even the research team’s needs are being met. This is a great start to our journey, and I hope everything will run this smooth. There is a little bit of apprehension that it seems everyone feels, but I am sure that will pass.
The teams are working well together. Everyone is starting to get to know one another, and there has been no real conflict. I say real conflict, because some people are on edge still, and leeway is allowed. The recon and operations team has its instructions now, and they are looking over the plans. Since there are a thousand troops we will be able to spread out nicely, putting teams of ten to fifty into major cities across the planet. It will be their job to be an unseen force for good. In a sense they will be goading people to make good decisions. The means is up to them in any way possible, short of showing themselves. Our camouflage system is based on the ships systems. The ship bends space around itself to make it appear that nothing is there. The personal system is much the same, except that there is a three percent compensation regulation by the manufacturer that gives you a couple of seconds of the camo setting up itself before it takes effect. This means that the recon troops will have to transport into an uninhabited area, or something of the like before they can access their systems. It is a glitch in my opinion, but the company is governed by the council, and this was one of their specs that just happened to be in use at the time. We were told that we would be given a new system for active camouflage, but the new system did not arrive in time.
Research has kind of spread its wings into a broad view of human history. Since we really do not know much before they started transmitting radio signals, we are limited to finding out their history by pretty narrow means. What they call their “internet” is a basic form of out net. We have been using that for research, and there will be a few missions where research team members will be on their own down there to do research in unadulterated ways.
The crew is getting settled, and we are running training missions on the simulator decks. As I stated, everything is running smoothly. I could have not asked for a better ship, and crew.

We have been on the ship for a day now. It will take us a full week (our time) to get there. I am nervous. This project is big for everyone. I don’t think I have taken on too much here, but everyone is anxious. I am the only person out of all of them who has been there, and I think I may be expecting too much from them already. I had a meeting on the flight deck today with the whole team; the crew, all research, recon, and command. It was kind of a persuasive speech. I was telling them what to expect. Sure, everyone here on board has seen the data on the human species, but I think it has tinged some of the crew with a bit of nervousness. If you come down to it, humanity is young, dangerous, violent, and well, not very smart.
I talked privately with Roz today. He is the most educated person on board when it comes to humans. In the time that lapsed between my first trip and now, he has been studying nothing else. I think once he is down on the planet he will be a little more comfortable. Right now he is on edge like everyone else.
I think curiosity has gotten the better of most people on this mission. We have already received instructions from the Planetary Exploration Service twice. They will be sending updates of our progress to the news media, and other sources throughout the trip. Everyone is already sick of them. This is our mission, and for the first time, it has nothing to do with them. They did not start this mission, and they have no real say on what we do. They are there to “help” they say. Granted that they are veterans of this field, they have tried to help without being overpowering. They need to try a bit harder if you ask me.
Calen Fyg is turning out to be a great person. I had lunch with him and his team today, and he is one of the most professional males I have ever known. His team is already working like a well tuned machine. They trust him completely. He was part of the Grelos mission when the recon team went awol, and he corralled them in a heart beat. I think the pressure of that mission was just about the same level that we see here, and he is trying to prove himself once again. I plan to rely on him heavily, so I am trying to build a trust early, and I am having no problem so far. He is a man of honor, and he would never go against a commanding officer. The Council may have been right on this one.
Well I am going to sleep now. Tomorrow brings a whole new lot of challenges, and I have to have a fresh outlook.

SEELAK DATA JOURNAL 2

PLAYBACK….HBNNEWS ARTICLE 349863 INTERVIEW

REPORTER: Do you think it is wise to start investigating this planet in more detail so early in its evolution? Doesn’t the Planetary Exploration Service usually wait until a planet is more “ripe for development” before we send data teams in to investigate, study, and influence the local creatures?

DR. SEELAK: In short, yes, we do usually wait until the planet is free of war, and the inhabitants are more evolved physically, and mentally. But, there is keen interest in this planet for two reasons. One, their government is not based on the voices of the people, and we hope to help them change that for a quicker development into a one world system of government. Reason two is simple; they are the closest biological “cousin” we have found so far, and it would be of benefit to study them in detail in an earlier stage of evolution, because we will be able to learn more about our own past that way. This is a great opportunity to learn where we have been, and where we are going.

REPORTER: But don’t you think that this is just a fancy of yours? A pet project if you will. It is widely known that Councilman Mogg was opposed to the idea along with half of the Planetary exploration Service. Why, and how was your new study approved?

DR. SEELAK: Honestly…it was a grassroots campaign. the video of the humans that I took on earth myself has become a hit. It has been accessed billions of times. Every major news agency, including HBN, has run it, and had commentary on it. The people have spoken, and their voice was heard.

That news reporter was a xenophobe. HBN is run by them really, and so many citizens follow that drivel. But on the other hand we had so much support from the citizenry for our mission that we got the OK to go. I am sorry that I did not keep my promise of reporting in one day, but you would not imagine how busy I have been; reporters, research, flight prep, and handpicking crew has been especially tough. I have picked team leaders in three categories. As I write this I am getting ready for the launch of our mission. We leave in three hours, and I wanted to touch base with you all before I left.

First category: Research.
Team Commander: Roz Geldonn
Roz is a perfect choice for this position. He has been my head researcher for a number of years now, and this is his big chance to come up with something that will impress his colleagues, and the government. He has always kind of had a chip on his shoulder because of his fathers major research blunder with the Drig-9 mission, so I am giving him a chance to distinguish himself. He is more fit for a position in the Recon team, being so physically fit, but his use of his brain is where he shines. He loves research, and he was my first pick for this job. The council voted him in unanimously.

Second Category: Recon and Scouting
Team Commander: Calen Fyg
This is my Recon team. It will be their job to scour the planet for the research team. They will put themselves in situations to better study the Humans, i.e. they will sit in on governmental meetings, participate in stopping the violence of war by all means possible without being seen, and they will listen to the voice of the people. There are too many members in this team to distinguish any one member for valor, but you can be sure, this is the body of the team, just like the Research team is the mind. Calen will command. He has the experience, and training to succeed. He was not my first choice, but he was chosen by the Council. I agreed on the stipulation that my first choice Rett Vsoz got to come with me an be on the command team. They agreed so everyone is happy.

Third Category: Command Team
Team Commander: Seelak Grons
This is the heart of the team, and mission. It will be the command team, Me, Bogwar Reves, Flar Qiik, Rett Vsoz and Hux Dorex in command. Three males, and two females. I had free reign on picking my Command team, and the Council made sure of that. This team will be the gateway between the workers, and the thinkers, and we will do our best to complete this mission without any problems.

I have to go to the ship now. Final sequence has started, and a mission can’t start without its commander.

SEELAK OFFLINE

sorry…

I will have to take the weekend off from the blog. I have visitors coming in today from out of state, and that will dominate my weekend plans. I’ll be back Monday with Seelak’s second data journal, and maybe something else. Have a beautiful weekend everyone! !!!!

COUNCIL MEETING RECORD 11985642

“You have our permission to study the planet in more depth. What you have shown us so far has made us think that with the right help, and guidance, these life forms could blossom into something great. Your flight will be leaving in three days. We look forward to hearing from you. Please keep us updated on your activities.”
“Thank you, councilors. With my team I am sure we will find the good in these primitive life forms, and make them see that living peacefully is the design for a better future.” END COUNCIL MEETING RECORD 11985642

SEELAK EARTH MISSION DATA JOURNAL 1

I bowed and left the room. The councilors are a good bunch, but sometimes their ambition for our planet makes them hurry things up too much. In this case, I am glad they did hurry up though. Since my first trip to “earth”, as they call it there, I have been excited to go back and view more “humans.”
When I got back to out planet, Besmessk, it was hard to find archived information on earth. We have a little, but the information is over fifty years old, and it seems at the time the info was gathered there was world conflict going on. We watched from afar, and did not get involved. It goes against our hands-off policy to interfere directly, unless the planet is in danger of total destruction. If that is the case we step in, and give a guiding hand to solve their problems. Earth came close a few times, but the fights among the nations were mostly superficial, and it was not that the people wanted to destroy each other, but it was the governments fighting for world power. There were two uses of atomic force weapons, but the horror these caused was lesson enough. By monitoring their transmissions until now, we can see that they have settled down very much. Even now the governments are discussing getting rid of the nuclear weapons, and I would be very happy if they did.
My name is Seelak. I am twenty-nine years old, and I am a scientist. I have traveled to earth once, and saw a great event. It moved me so much, I had to show my report to my people. Some thought it was just an animalistic action on their part to save their offspring, but when I made the point that many hands were involved in saving the child, some saw that it was an act of compassion, and love. It moved the masses when it was uploaded to the net. People were astounded that such a primitive race could work together to save, and care, for the life of one youngling.
I have decided to keep this record on my data pod so I can report my feelings for the people of my planet, and for the people of earth someday to see. I hope it will make them happy that they have made be their biggest fan. I have been running data, and footage from my trip there, (Ha, it was only supposed to be a vacation!) and I have realized that these humans are further along than we thought. I have sold my councilors on the idea that it would be good to monitor their progress like we do with other emerging species, and keep a record for them, and as well as us. For them to know someday that they had someone in the galaxy rooting for them….I think it would make them very happy.
So, the trip is scheduled for three days from now, and I have my crew assembled. In my next entry I will introduce the crew, and let everyone get to know our team in depth. We are all very excited about this mission, and want it to succeed. My next report will come in one full day.
